Wednesday, September 28, 2016
Synopsis:
Tip Seal Replacement.
Equipment/Beam Line:
Description:

The tip seal service warning was on the display for months.  Hour meter registers 3888.  Old tip seal was removed and had a very thin section on the orbiting plate tip seal.  Old teflon dust was gunky and smelled oily.  There were also droplets of water on the bottom of the vacuum grooves.  Both scrolls were cleaned and new tip seals were installed and pump tested.  Within 6 hours the pressure was ~6E-7 Torr.  Turbo pump current at ~1/6 amp.  Pump deemed operational and will be put into service as soon as we can reset the tip seal fault.
