Maintenance for M20 Upstream

Date:
Monday, May 8, 2023
Synopsis:
Ion gauge filaments and Window materials changed.
Equipment/Beam Line:
Description:

Ion gauges were removed M20:IG1, M20:IG5 and M20:IG8.  IG1 and IG5 had both filaments broken.  IG8 had only one broken.  IG1 received an Agilent filament kit part number 9710028.  IG5 and IG8 recieved the cheaper Duniway Stockroom filament kit part number FIL-9A.

IG1 found to be working correctly.

IG5 worked momentarily and stopped.  This filament heated up and warped and shorted to the grid.

Filament IG8 never worked.  Subsequent tests found the board on the controller to be faulty.  This was rectified and IG8 found to work correctly.

IG5 was removed and the foot was turned away from grid since the filament shorted 1/4" away from the foot.  This gauge was installed oriented 180 degrees so the filaments were on the bottom.

All three windows were removed and window paddles were exchanged in Separator 1 West and Separator 1 East.  Window paddle in Separator 2 was removed and the material was changed in the paddle from Separator 1 West and exchanged into Separator 2.  Window material was PETE .003mm thick.  Orings under windows were also changed.

Windows tested and found to be working.
